Distally placed arthroscopic portal

If the arthroscopic portal is placed too far distally there is chance to damage the anterior portion of lateral meniscus. This is possible in case of a low-riding patella, if the surgeon uses the patellar apex as the landmark. It is important therefore to note the level of patella before establishing the arthroscopic portal.
